Activity Specialist (part-time)

Approximately 10 hrs/wk following the school calendar year, 26 weeks annually
Position funded through 12/31/19

Program:  Children and Family Services

Responsibilities:  Work directly with children and youth in the Rockland County School Districts to identify their strengths and skills, to improve school attendance, advance student participation and reduce the dropout rate. Plan and implement scheduled activities with elementary, middle and/or high school students; facilitate and lead classroom activities for students on various topics; complete assigned documentation in a timely manner; develop individualized projects to meet specific needs; bring in approved materials to assist students with identified topics of concern; maintain and make recommendations for program inventory; participate in meetings; and additional related duties as assigned.

Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in recreation/education or related field and ability to work with children and youth of diverse backgrounds. Relevant experience may be substituted for Bachelor’s degree.

A.A. Degree and two years experience teaching or conducting appropriate therapeutic activities is an acceptable alternative.

Experience working with diverse populations. Experience with educational curriculum materials preferred. Knowledge of therapeutic theory and practices and the ability to relate well with students and staff required.  Well developed organizational, verbal and written communication skills needed. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish a plus).  Valid Driver’s license required.
